How Was the Winner Chosen?
The North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year Awards are unique because they’re incredibly thorough — leaving little room for doubt in jurors’ minds. For this year’s awards, 54 jurors were pulled from all different types of media outlets from across the United States and Canada. Evaluations of each eligible model began in June 2018 and included hundreds of test drives and three rounds of voting. Finalists were chosen based on their overall influence in their respective segments, as well as their value.
In the end, the 2019 Hyundai Kona/Kona EV reigned supreme over its luxury competitors. Jamie Page Deaton, executive editor at U.S. News & World Report Best Cars, had this to say about the Kona EV, “A livable EV range, affordable price and practical cabin combine with lively driving dynamics to make the Kona EV a true pleasure. It’s the kind of EV that could convince the most ardent EV-skeptic.”
